MYRTLE BEACH, SC -JUNE 2005 - With the wave of a magic wand, MagiQuest will open its doors to the public
at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 4, at Broadway at the Beach in Myrtle Beach, S.C. MagiQuest is a brand new,
live action adventure game that immerses guests in a fantasy world of imagination and interactive play
where they become a main part of the story. MagiQuest is the first entertainment venue of New Kingdoms, LLC, a joint venture between Burroughs & Chapin Co., Inc. of Myrtle Beach S.C. and Creative Kingdoms, LLC, of Rhode Island. "Our goal is to get kids off their couches and get them moving and interacting together," Denise Weston, one of the developers of MagiQuest, said. "What kids would want to sit at home all day in front of the television when they and their friends and family can explore an exciting world of castles and enchanted forests that house dragons, pixies, princesses, goblins and wizards!" Weston said. Weston, a well-known child psychologist and "playologist," has been instrumental in developing MagiQuest and other family-oriented amusement venues that encourage interactivity and physical play, such as the award-winning Great Barn at Stone Mountain Park in Georgia and the popular Wiley's Woods in the Wisconsin Dells. Weston has also consulted with major toy companies during the development of children's toys and has authored several books on children and play. Through role-playing, intellect, teamwork and imagination, players use their magic wands and earned powers to achieve increasing levels of success as they venture further in the land and the game of MagiQuest. Like a video game, MagiQuest guests choose their own adventures and journeys, accumulate powers and proceed to higher levels as their powers increase. MagiQuest, however, doesn't happen on a TV screen; it engages kids and families in a magical world with live challenges and real physical activity - not to mention a whole lot of fun! "Although MagiQuest works like a video game in the sense of scoring and offering multiple levels of play, it is a three-dimensional fantasy world that kids and parents move through together. Kids can touch the castle walls and walk through its arches. They can walk into the Pixie's tree house and travel through the dungeons," Weston said. "MagiQuest is also unique because the game encourages friends and family to work together to achieve their goals. Plus, each player gets a real magic wand that creates real magic, a tangible symbol that it is important and fun to keep magic alive in our crazy, hectic lives," Weston said. One of the key ingredients in MagiQuest is the patented new technology that is contained in each wand. Wands have the ability to make things appear and disappear, and allow its users to accomplish many different effects. Most importantly, the wands remember everything the player accomplished in the past when they return to MagiQuest for another quest or adventure. In addition, special technology has been utilized to make MagiQuest a never-ending adventure. By "remembering" each guest's experience, MagiQuest's technology allows guests to return as often as they like. Each time guests return, they will still have the powers and levels achieved from their previous experiences. Here's how the game works:
Guests not wishing to use a wand can purchase a magical key or magical compass. The key and the compass both unlock increased levels of gold for the Magi they are accompanying, but the compass also has the ability to locate a specific Magi and summon him or her to a specific location so parents can keep in communication with their kids. Grandparents will be welcome to come into MagiQuest without a magical device because of they already posses the magic of their wisdom. MagiQuest is the first amusement venue of New Kingdoms, LLC, a joint venture between Burroughs & Chapin Co., Inc. and Creative Kingdoms.
